Description
A comforting dish that combines the rich flavors of Salisbury steak with the savory sweetness of caramelized onions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 large onions, sliced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1 cup shredded cheese (Swiss or provolone)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, finely chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined and shape into patties.
- Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat, add sliced onions, and cook with a pinch of salt for about 15 minutes until they turn golden brown.
- Remove onions, and in the same skillet, brown the beef patties for 4-5 minutes on each side.
- Add caramelized onions back to the skillet, pour in beef broth, and sprinkle thyme. Simmer gently.
- After 10 minutes, sprinkle shredded cheese over patties, cover, and let the cheese melt.
- Plate the patties with gravy on top and serve hot.
Notes
Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor. Let the patties rest before serving for juiciness.
