Description

Cheesy scalloped potatoes are a comforting dish with layers of tender potatoes and creamy cheese sauce, perfect for family gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 2 pounds russet potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: paprika for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  3. Add the flour to the melted butter and whisk together, cooking for about 1 minute.
  4. Gradually pour in the milk while whisking continuously until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheese until melted and creamy.
  6. Grease a baking dish and layer half of the sliced potatoes, seasoning with salt and pepper.
  7. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes, covering evenly.
  8. Repeat with the remaining potatoes, seasoning and pouring the rest of the cheese sauce on top.
  9. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  11. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the fridge or freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat in the oven for best results.
